MedTech's Certified Professional Coders (CPC) review pre-submission and post-submission charts to evaluate the adequacy and accuracy of the documentation, the correct CPT/HCPC's procedure codes, and correct assignment of the ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes.

MedTech will identify potential coding risks and provide guidelines for documentation and coding improvements. The findings of the study will be presented to the physician and/or legal counsel.

MedTech ensures compliance in accordance with Medicare, Medicaid, and Third-Party payers. In-house compliance audits are performed on a continuous basis.

APC Compliance

Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC's) will require clinical and coding staff to work together to ensure consistent billing for outpatient services. Physicians and nurses must address the medical reason and necessity for the procedures performed. Medical decision making must be fully documented on each record by physicians and nurses to establish the need for the level of service billed to the patient. MedTech assigns certified professional coders to specific providers, educates providers on government regulations, reviews pre & post submission charts, and critiques CPT/HCPCS procedure codes and ICD-9-CM diagnosis code assignment. Also, MedTech's certified professional coding staff audits each coded chart for content and accuracy. This policy provides MedTech with the tool to ensure consistent billing for outpatient services to meet the requirements set by the Office of the Inspector General. Hospitals will not bill the actual APC, the assignment of CPT and HCPCS by coders will determine how Medicare assigns the APC and determines payment.
